First off before I start, I just want to say that my critical remarks are not aimed at all towards the actors. All of the actors did a great job with the material they had to work with. There performances were all excellent and I wish them all the best in their future projects. I think they are all going to be very successful in the future. This season had the potential to be amazing and blow season 1(which was an amazing season) out of the water due to the huge cliffhanger left in season 1 and the great characters and character development and stories that were made in season 1 but all that potential was flushed down the toilet and instead season 2 looked rushed, lazily written and poor. I'll go over each problem in a separate paragraph each.
First off the pacing, the pacing was bad for almost every episode and the season as a whole. Almost every episode had the same pacing problem - the first 20 minutes were wasted on filler and then in the last 2 or 3 minutes, the episode finally gets to the point but since there's only a few minutes left in the episode, it's horribly rushed and comes off looking really chessy. And as for the pacing of the season as a whole, another bad job, why would you wait until the very end of the season before you actually start the main plot. Why is it that just recently Doyle starts to appear and finds out about the comic? Why is Omen not brought back until the end of the season? Why have Violet and Blaze just recently gotten powerful enough to escape their world? This is stuff that should've happened at the beginning of the season and then it would have alot of time to develop and flesh out but instead they wasted a bunch of episodes on useless stuff like Juniper, Vern's tricks and all these romances between everyone so important things like the comic world never got explored enough and the real plot and point to Dark Oracle got crammed to the end of the season so it ended up with a very rushed ending which leads to the next problem...
A complete unbalance of character useage, far too much time was blown on side characters that were completely useless to the Dark Oracle plot, while important characters didn't get enough time at all. Why were two whole episodes wasted on Juniper, which was a boring useless character. Too much time was also wasted on characters like Emett and Rebecca just to further along all these ridiculous romances which way too much time was focused on espicially since in the end, they had nothing to do with the main plot of the show. Very important characters like Doyle and Omen were barely used at all even though they were very essiential to the show and Violet and Blaze weren't shown enough either and we barely got to see anything in their world. While Vern, while definitely an important character was way overused to the point where it felt like he was being shoved down my throat even though he wasn't the main villain.
Last problem was lack of humor. I really missed the funny talks/arguments between Cally and Lance that were so great in season 1. They were almost nonexistant this season. The party episode was really the only time I laughed which was kind of sad. I appreciate that they went with a darker tone but it was abit too dark to the point where it was depressing at many times.Sorry for the rant, but I really expected more from this season and was very disapointing espicially since it was over a whole year before it was shown. I mean no disrespect at all, i'm still a fan of the show, I loved season 1 and am a big fan of all the actors but I just didn't like season 2 and that's my opinion and I backed it up. I hope no one gets angry with me because I really like this forum and the people that post here.
